Q: How long have you been at Monash University?
(gulp) Too long - 20 years last September
Q: What led you into your current role at Monash?
As far as currant rolls are concerned, being sultana of Academic
Board was the souffle. I'm not rising any more.
Q: What has been the most exciting moment in your career so
far?
Getting elected as the sultana man.
Q: ... and your most embarrassing?
Fingering David Abramson in Academic Board for reading his email
during meetings.
Q: What book are you reading right now?
The Jesus Papers, by Michael Baigent (of Da Vinci Code fame)
Q: What size is your television?
48 cms - isn't that standard?
Q: What is your favourite film?
Hard to say - Monty Python and The Holy Grail?
Q: What is your culinary speciality?
I love to cook "Poulet a soutienne gorge", which is french for
"chicken in a bra". Finding people to eat it is the real
challenge.
Q: If you could have dinner with any 3 people, past or
present, who would they be and why?
I think Jesus Christ would be number one, just to make sure that
my understanding of the person I think he is is correct ... then
perhaps Isambard Kingdom Brunel, the greatest engineer than ever
lived, and inventor of the broad gauge. If I still have any
prandial energy left, I'd include a woman - Elizabeth I. She
strikes me as a most enigmatic and anachronistic female
achiever.
Q: What is something about you that most of your colleagues
wouldn't know?
Trai - no, you all know that. I did meet the Rev W. C. Audrey
once, the writer of the Thomas the Tank Engine books. He knew a
lot about Australian trains.
Q: If you could write your own epitaph, what would it say?
I would like to leave people wondering after my death whether this proposition remained true or not.
