A pair of 49class hauling a string of wheat hoppers
near Dubbo. (Thanks to Wayne Coleman for correcting my previous
catalog entry for this photo, and for information on how to
distinguish 45 and 49 class.)
Well, that was too easy. Lachlan Baird has written to say:
I think in fact you'll find these two 49s are in
fact 47 class. The Yellow banding on the 47's was quite a lot
lower then on the 49s. If you compare the banding on these
two 47s it's a lot lower then on other 49s in the indian red
scheme.
The profile of the nose on the no 1 end is also lower then
49's.
The vent on the sides of the number 2 end of a 49 can easily
been seen through, however as in the pic, 47s have a much
closer hatched grill on the no 2 end and cannot be seen
through.
The exhaust stacks on the 47s was quite alot more prominent
then on the 49s as can be seen in your picture. This is a big
giveaway.
The window arrangments on the cabin is 47 class.
I would be quite confident in concluding that these two locos
are in fact 47 class.
I would be interested to know your thoughts.
Indeed. Take Lachlan's comment about the vents, and look at
the photos below of 49 class - they are easily seen through.
